QUILLARUMIYOQ, INCA TRAIL, MACHUPICCHU 5D/4N

This is a very fascinating and exciting hike on our journey to the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu. On this Moonstone trek, which lasts 5 days 4 nights, we will travel about 38 km / 24 miles and about 6 – 7 hours per day above the Sacred Valley. This tour will visit one of the best preserved pre-Inca sites, and highlights the Inca canal, perhaps one of the largest built during the Inca period, as well as the stone quarries of Cachicata used to build the temple to the Sun in Ollantaytambo.

During this exciting tour we will go through some typical communities in the area where to maintain their customs and traditions here observe their immense fields of: corn, potato and quinoa, abundant alpacas, llamas and very impressive views of Mount Veronica among others.

This Moosntone trek includes the Vistadome train which is one of the best services from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes and a comfortable hotel in the town of Aguas Calientes. Dinner will be at one of the restaurants accompanied by your guide.

Itinerary

1st DAY- CUSCO – QUILLARUMIYOQ – CHILLIPAWA

On this day you will be picked up from your hotel early at 6:00 am by your guide. You will then be taken by private transport to where we start our great adventure in these enigmatic places where we will have a one hour trip to the archaeological site of QUILLARUMIYOQ that in our native language Quechua means (Moon stone). Along the way you can appreciate the different mountains and enjoy fields of agriculture in the area where we pass by some rural villages. After enjoying this place and explore this shrine which is dedicated to the deity of the femininity will continue in our transport for about 30 minutes until the beginning of this path to Molinuyoc 3.256 m / 10.682 feet near the river Huarocondo. This will be the place where we meet our porters who carry our team and help us start this pleasant adventure.

Then we will start our hike of 3.5 hours uphill until you reach Wata (3,924 m / 12,870 feet), which is a pre-Inca which was the control of the valleys of Anta, Pomatales, and Chancachuco, an important fortress that dominates the crest of one of the mountain ranges highest and the dominant views in three directions along this Valley crossing this will be the place where we will have lunch and take a brief tour of the area. After our lunch we continue our Trek by approximately 3.5 extras looking at some archaeological sites, valleys and the huge mountains that surround us up to our camp where our staff awaits us with drinks hot here in Chillipawa (3750 m / 12,300 feet), in this area, we will appreciate your daily work of local villagers as well as we interact with them their customs and traditions, some of them are relatives of our porters.Alimentación: almuerzo, lonche, cena.

2nd DAY- CHILLIPAWA – PUCACCASA – CHANCACHUCO

On this day will wake up very early where we will have a coca tea followed by a good hot breakfast to give us more power to our walk today, Ascend gradually for approximately 3.5 hours through various ecosystems and chachacomo trees, small fields next to the steep mountains of this area, some villages that maintain their tradition since Inca times as: dance, religion, agriculture etc. to the middle of the trail, where we will have our lunch and a short break then continue uphill for 1 hour up to the highest point which is the step of Pucaccasa (4,643 m / 15,229 feet). This is the highest point where you can see the city of Cusco, as well as the mountain of Ausangate (6372 m / 14,557 feet), which is one of the highest mountains in our region and the Urubamaba range as well as views of Mount Huaccay Huillca (weeping sanctuary) close by, or Veronica (5,882 m / 19,096 feet).

After enjoying this fabulous view of nature we will begin our descent into our camp for about 2.5 hours where we will see some llamas, alpacas in the area and up to our camp at Chancachuco (4,177 m / 13, 700 ft.). In the evening we will enjoy a delicious dinner, where we will have a beautiful view of Huayanay glaciers in our camp.

3rd DAY.- CHANCACHUCO – PUNKUYOC – CANAL INCA -CACHICATA

After taking our breakfast we will start our journey with a gradual decline as we follow a mountain brook where we will observe part of an abandoned Inca canal. Perhaps this channel was the longest, built from Chancachuco up to the town of Ollantaytambo, where we are surrounded by lush vegetation and polylepis trees. Then we continue uphill for approximately 2 hours, stopping along the way at Inti Punku (Sun Gate), where we will visit the Inca quarry and have a view magnificent view of the mountain and part of the great Sacred Valley.

Continuing our descent we will pass by an Inca city which was inhabited by hundreds of workers of the Inca Empire, as well as observe some big stones that were ready to be transported by a steep slope to the Vilcanota River. In the afternoon we will have time to explore this place more, including features such as ramps and platforms. In the evening we will enjoy an amazing sunset over the Sacred Valley in our camp.

4th DAY – CACHICATA – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES

This will be a more calm and relaxed day where we will have the opportunity to enjoy the scenery and wonderful sites. It is likely that we will not find other hikers as it is a place not very frequented by tourists and agencies. Our hike to arrive at Ollantaytambo will be 3.5 hours (2,792 m 9,158 feet).

Here is where we will enjoy our lunch, then we will have a short time to explore the town by its typical streets before you board the Vistadome train that will take us to the village of Aguas Calientes and enjoy more of the beautiful valleys and mountains. Upon our arrival in Aguas Calientes we will register at your hotel to spend the night. In the afternoon you will have time to relax, visit the village or perhaps enjoy the thermal baths and in the evening have dinner at one of the local restaurants.

5th DAY – DIA AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO

Very early after our breakfast in the hotel we will go to the bus station to ascend up to the Citadel of Machu Picchu for a period of 30 minutes by bus. Then we will have guided tour of different areas for about 2 hours. If you want to climb the mountain of Huayna Picchu, you should begin at 10 am, as the ticket for this mountain is included in the price of your hike, and if you don’t wish to go on this trip you will have free time to be able to take some photos of the site and to explore some other sectors before returning to the town of Aguas Calientes on buses.

Arriving at Aguas Calientes you will need to be 30 minutes before the train station to address any issues prior to the trip to Ollantaytambo to then be picked up and moved by our transportation to the city of Cusco. Arrival time will depend on the time of your train ticket.
