LARES – MACHUPICCHU 4D / 3N

On this day, before starting the hike, you will be able to enjoy the thermal baths that are unique in their style. This Lares trail is an excellent alternative, surrounded by beautiful landscapes and lakes and valleys that the Andes Mountains offer, and has a view of the communities where you can interact with the town people who are descendants of the Incas, and enjoy their traditional Andean lifestyle. This trek from Lares to Machu Picchu is one of the Inca trails from their time that is still maintained. Today the trail is still used by farmers who are descendants of the Incas. In the afternoon of the third day we will take the train to the town of Aguas Calientes, and the next day we will have a full day to explore the Machupicchu Sanctuary.

Itinerary

1st DAY- CUSCO – LARES – WACAHUASI

Pick up from the hotel at 5:00 a.m. and then we will go to the town of LARES on this journey we will see the great and majestic Sacred Valley with its fertile lands. We will pass through different very typical towns of the region such as: Pisaq, Coya and Calca, this is where we will make a small stop to buy some things like: snacks, flashlights and some drinks. Continuing the trip, we will pass through the villages of Totora and Maucaupata, the inhabitants of these places wear typical costumes and are committed to agriculture, livestock and textiles. We will also enjoy landscapes and snowy peaks.

Finally, after about 3 hours of travel we will arrive at Lares located at 3,200 m. Here we can have breakfast (not included) and we will visit the thermal baths. After taking a refreshing bath we will begin to walk for an average of 40 min to our lunch location which will be on the banks of the river and where we will also enjoy the typical way of labor of the Andean man as well as their lifestyle. After having lunch and having a short rest, we will continue to our campsite in Wacahuasi, where we will stay in one of the typical houses of these town people and have dinner and rest.

2nd DAY- WACAHUASI – PATACANCHA

After having an early breakfast, we will continue our walk to the next campsite. On this day we will climb until we reach the highest point that is the IPSAYCOCHA junction at 4,200 m. at this location we will make a brief stop. On the way we will appreciate some snowy mountains that are part of the Vilcanota mountain range as well as some animals: alpacas, llamas among other animals, after our break we will descend to the lunch place that will be on the banks of the lagoon with the same name. Here we will have a short break and enjoy the typical way of making their textiles that they weave for their daily use, then continuing for an hour we will reach our next campsite in the community of Patacancha, dinner and rest.

3rd DAY- PATACANCHA – OLLANTAYTAMBO – AGUAS CALIENTES

After breakfast we will continue with the tour for about 1 hour to the typical village of WILLOQ, a town that maintains its original customs and that of our ancestors. During the trek we can observe the different archaeological sites of Qochapata and Pumamarca. Then we will arrive at the town of Ollantaytambo at 1:00 pm, after 5 hours of walking, we will have lunch and then we will have the afternoon free until we board the train that will take us to Aguas Calientes where we will spend the last night in a hotel with private bathrooms and hot water and we will also coordinate for the big day.

4th day- MACHUPICCHU – CUSCO

After having an early breakfast, we will go to the bus station that will take 30 min. approximately to reach the citadel of Machupicchu. We will see the sunrise and have the 2 hour guided tour after which we will have free time. According to the train schedule we will need to go down to the town of Aguas Calientes to take the train back to Ollantaytambo where we will pick you up by bus and take you to Cusco.

Recommended for: Those people who want to experience the way of living for the local Andean people and an excellent place to take some unforgettable photos of their trip. NOT RECOMMENDED- for people who suffer from obesity and poor physical condition.

Acclimatization: In order to avoid the altitude sickness, we recommend you spend at least 2 days in the city of Cusco or surroundings before starting this incredible adventure.

About the availability: This activity does not require permits so we always have spaces available but nevertheless it will be better to make the reservation months before to be able to secure tickets to the citadel of Machu Picchu and the train.

Huayna Picchu: If you are interested in climbing this famous mountain of Huayna Picchu, where you can see a beautiful and wonderful view of the whole citadel of Machupicchu, it has an additional cost of $75.00 per person for the entrance ticket. These spaces are limited so you must confirm with us so we’ll be able to reserve your entrance ticket which depends on the availability of spaces granted by the Ministry of Culture.

Panoramic Train: Our price includes a return train ticket in the Expedition service, but if you wish to upgrade to the Panoramic train service the price is $55.00 USD per person.

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR WHAT YOU SHOULD CARRY

The passengers must personally carry the following:
Travel insurance, personal items, first aid kit, fever pills, upset stomach pills, sun block, mosquito repellent, flashlights, rain ponchos, trekking shoes, camera, sun hat, swimwear, sandals, money (according to personal criteria) and original documents: Passport, DNI, students need their original ISIC card.
