CHINCHERO, MARAS, MORAY AND SALINERAS

Our first stop is in Chinchero a charming town traditionally known for its spectacular fabric. Here we will see and learn about the art of Peruvian weaving as well as enjoy its beautiful church and its agricultural terraces where you can see from a distance some of the most important snow-capped mountains in the area and afterwards we’ll continue to Maras and Moray. On this tour you will see the experimental agricultural terraces in circular forms. Later we will go to Salineras with more than 3,000 salt pits where the people still work to be able to extract and distribute the salt to the different markets. Without a doubt this is one of the most enjoyable stops on this tour. Then we will return to the city of Cusco or you may want to take the train from Ollantaytambo to the town of Aguas Calientes or stay in a hotel in the Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Itinerary

This day the pickup from your hotel will be at 08:15 am then we will drive with our private transportation to the town of CHINCHERO. You will meet the textile craftsmen and they will show us their ancestral dyeing techniques, which are very experienced settlers of the Cusco region. Andean textile carries with it all the elements of a means of communication with codes and figures that determines the origin, position and its own representation of the world. The color designs and techniques are transmitted orally through generations. Afterwards we will visit its beautiful church that is from the colonial century as well as its traditional streets and the enormous esplanade that is appreciated in this place. From there in about 40 minutes you will arrive at MARAS on the way we will enjoy some typical villages and beautiful landscapes. We will visit a village where you can see the Vilcanota mountain range as well as its magnificent snow-capped mountains such as: “Chicón” and “La Veronica “.

This town maintains some attractions of the colonial and republican period; in the colonial era was the main point of passage for both the exit and the entrance to the city. Continuing with the tour we will arrive at the archeological complex of MORAY located 7 km. from the town due to its climatological characteristics this place was considered as a center of agricultural experimentation (greenhouse) obtaining products of high nutritional quality. Finally we will visit SALINERAS which is made up of approximately 3,000 salt pits that have been exploited since the Inca times, as well as the colonial period, and today the people maintain it as well as use it for commercialization. In the afternoon we will return to our hotel either in Cusco or in the Sacred Valley.
